Indian Rummy

Classic 13-card Indian Rummy (Paplu) with 2 decks, cut wild jokers, pure sequences, and 80-point deadwood cap.

How to play

2 to 5 players. 13 cards dealt from two 52-card decks with 2 printed jokers (106 cards total).

A cut card sets the Wild Joker rank. All cards of that rank plus printed jokers act as wildcards.

You must form at least 2 sequences: at least 1 Pure Sequence (no jokers) and 1 Second Sequence (pure or with jokers).

Remaining cards form valid sequences or sets (3 or 4 cards of the same rank with distinct suits).

First to arrange all 13 cards and discard to Show wins (0 pts). Opponents pay deadwood penalties up to 80 points.

About Indian Rummy

Indian Rummy, affectionately celebrated as 13-Card Rummy or Paplu, is a beloved South Asian card game of skill played with two standard 52-card decks and printed jokers. Players are dealt 13 cards and must meld their entire hand into valid sequences and sets. Victory requires forming at least two sequences, one of which must be an unassisted Pure Sequence without jokers. A random card cut before the deal designates the Wild Joker rank, granting versatile wild power across all suits. Players strive to declare Show for zero penalty points while opponents pay deadwood up to an 80-point cap.

Tips for Indian Rummy

  • Prioritize forming your Pure Sequence immediately: without a pure sequence, your entire hand is counted as penalty deadwood regardless of other melds.
  • Utilize cut Wild Jokers to complete your second sequence and high-value sets, reducing unmatched picture cards that carry 10 penalty points each.
  • Evaluate an unpromising opening deal early: an initial First Drop limits your penalty to 20 points instead of risking a full 80-point loss.
